Boys' Weekend @ Fall Creek Falls (Day 1)

Fall Creek Falls is just outside of Spencer, TN - North of Chattanooga, and Southeast of Nashville. Smoky Mountains like Pigeon Forge, but without all the tourists/fanfare. There's great hiking and scenery! It was time for the boys to have Dad all to themselves. This was the perfect retreat for it! You can see people at the bottom of the falls, taking a dip.

The boys are stoked to take their first paddle-boat ride....that is, until Dad's side of the boat started to take on a little too much H2O. They barely made it back to the dock before the boat capsized!

Paddling a flat-bottom boat is a little bit of work, but Dad wasn't about to shell out $400 for a trolling motor (and the marina didn't loan motors). He's all smiles here - but that's before the other two males got tired in the middle of the lake! LOL
Kaden was too small for his life jacket, but they were all out of "your too damn skinny" versions. In this picture, he's wondering if he's going to get to use it - with Dad's side of the paddle boat sinking.

Row, Men, Row!
Successful naval operation! Kolt pulled the boat up to the dock himself!

Perfect view from one of the many overlooks in the park. Kolton is on top of the world!
It was tough keeping up with the boys through the trails - they're little goats! In this picture, Kaden is showing me his "welcome to the gun show" pose in an effort to speed me up!
Another great overlook - "Buzzard's Loft"....or something like that.

Still hard to believe these two are brothers....much less twins. So different in every way!
One of the many creeks we traverse over (via sturdy bridge) through the trails.
Little off road studs, posing for the hot chicas on the trail. Funny how they stopped panting as we passed them!! LOL

My pack is just about as big as Kolt, but he volunteered to man up for a spell and take it on.
What was that sound?!?! I showed them "Blair Witch" before we went out in the woods! (just kidding)
Here's our cabin we stayed in. A last second find that Missy discovered for us (thanks, babe!). It took us forever to find, but the location is well worth it. Completely secluded from everyone and everything, you're miles from the closest neighbor/paved road, and have your own waterfall and view of the Smokies (check out the videos). P.S. My mini-van is badass....don't make fun of it!
Here's a little fire pit. We found a few 'widows under the logs, but still found the courage to get some smores cookin'!
This would be better in the Falltime, but....
Dad stokin' the fire.
This is our path down to our observation deck about our waterfall. It's sooo quiet.

  1. Wonderful bonding time for the guys - great idea! Kolt and Kaden look like natural campers. Brought back memories of canoeing class at Emporia State University -we had to go down a loooooong river in Missouri - it takes a lot of stamina, strength and a canoeing partner with big muscles!!! :)

    Love you, grandma Patti
